Tree Garland

Tree garland is taken to a whole new level in this Winnipeg neighborhood.

Keep your eyes out for the unusual. Look down or look up instead of only straight ahead. Here the wires strung from pole to pole are heavy with ice and drooping, drawing my attention and interest upwards. A snowy scene, I can't help but let my mind go to Christmas garland being strung through the trees.

I shot this picture at a focal length of 70, aperture of f/7.1 and with a shutter speed of 1/60. I added a texture layer and increased the contrast to draw further attention to the wires.

Changing Landscape

The snow has arrived. Late in coming this year but you'll hear no complaints from me on its tardiness. Truthfully though, I am happy to live in an area where we enjoy the four seasons. The changing landscape keeps things interesting and new...at least for awhile.

With change comes seeing things in a different way. This speaks into my photography and also my life.

Spotlight - Ice

I was about to promise that there would be no more pictures of winter and ice but I can't help myself. Here is another. If it helps, don't think of it as ice. Think of it as shiny and sparkly...bling!

Spotlight - Icy Bloom

Yeah, I know. Nobody wants to see winter pictures right now. Here's what I see. I see a sunflower bursting free of the norm into a metallic marvel. Until the real blooms show themselves, I will be content to see the bloom elsewhere. I walked through beautiful gardens this morning.

Spotlight - Frost

The frost was so interesting yesterday morning. It was frost upon frost really, growing up like little trees instead of blanketing a surface. With the freezing and thawing action we've had, the moving water was frozen in time, branches fixed beneath the clear looking glass. This provided the perfect foundation for these little trees of frost. I had to lie on the ground to really see this and certainly to get the shot that I wanted.

Spotlight - Ice

On my walk today I found so many cool ice and frost formations. I wonder how I looked to those who might have spotted me lying down alongside Transcona Trail, a known dog run? I was careful. I think I was careful.

I call this one Sprout. Abstract art on ice!

The bit of green you see here is below ice level. How cool is that?
Thaw and serve up a little plate of spring.

Holding Out

I stood on the middle of the bridge and pointed my lens at the mist coming up through the last patch of open water. It wouldn't be much longer, maybe a day or two more with the cold snap, and the water would give way to winter's cover. It seems to have taken longer this year than previous years though I'm not sure why. It has felt cold enough for solid footing on the river.
