The Canadian Museum for Human Rights

It was cold down by the river today but today was the day I chose to steal some time away with my camera. I was determined. Even if it lasted for only 10 minutes.

Here is a shot of The Canadian Museum for Human Rights taken from the east bank of the Red River near the foot of the Esplanade Riel in Winnipeg.

Inspirational

This lovely couple sitting by the river inspires me. They inspire me to wait patiently for whatever comes (spring!) and enjoy the present, enjoy each other.

I took this image with a fast shutter speed of 1/2000 and an aperture of f/2.8. I imported the image into Lightroom where I made some changes in the colour and then added a texture layer in Photoshop to complete the post processing.

Dreaming of Love

This lone goose is dreaming of love. Sitting, waiting, looking out into the water, all she sees are hearts glistening and dancing on the water's surface.

Using a filter can add a magical touch to your image. Keep your subject in mind when selecting the filter to be used. Not all filters are for all subjects. Pay attention to the story you want to tell with your photo.

I found a post on Craftgawker that showed me how to make a homemade bokeh filter. Here is the link. I chose a heart cut-out for mine and off I went to capture some love! It is easy to do and so much fun. Why not give it a try?

Follow the Light

Follow the light.

Today the light was exceptional down by the river. It was sparkly and beautiful and was just like a spotlight in some areas.

Light can be what makes the difference between a mediocre image and a great image. If you don't have good light, something is lost. When there is exceptional light, something is gained.

When you're on your walks looking for some good shots, follow the light. You may have to walk a distance to see it playing in the woods or to catch it dancing with the ice crystals in an open area, but walking is good for us...and light...well, light is exceptionally good for us.

Holding Out

I stood on the middle of the bridge and pointed my lens at the mist coming up through the last patch of open water. It wouldn't be much longer, maybe a day or two more with the cold snap, and the water would give way to winter's cover. It seems to have taken longer this year than previous years though I'm not sure why. It has felt cold enough for solid footing on the river.
