Fog's Hush

Fog hushes.
The repetitive squeak broke through the silence first.
And then the fog.

Sun's Presence

Isn't that just like the sun? On this foggy day, it appeared and disappeared, rose above and hid behind the urban landscape. But it was always there.

Crossing

This is a pretty common sight in our city, Winnipeg.

It was a foggy morning when I took this shot. Using my tripod, I gained stability where I would have lost it with my 1/30 shutter speed. My aperture was set at f/5.  ISO was 100.

Once on my computer, I brought the image into photoshop and added a texture layer to give the structures a little bit of substance, something for our eyes to grab hold of through the fog.

Fog

When taking pictures of fog it is good to have something in the foreground that is relatively clear and recognizable. If it is only fog, well, you won't see much at all.

Using my zoom, I wandered the trail this morning in the fog. As you can see, it was pretty dense except for right in front of me. This made for some interesting shots.

In the first image, shot at a focal length of 75, f/7.1 and a speed of 1/200, we can clearly see the path and colours in the grasses. Including colour in a fog composition works quite well.

In the second image, I zoomed in from a greater distance onto this tree. My focal length was 105, my aperture f/4.5 and shutter speed 1/200. The drop off of clarity is not as sharp as in the first image.

Little side note: I did not notice the bird perched in the tree until I got my pictures onto the computer.

Forward in the Fog

The little one leans forward, close, touching, as the bigger one presses forward in the fog.

Frost and Fog

It is a frosty and foggy morning. The edges and surfaces sparkle with icy crystals but you cannot see this unless you are close; the fog is thick.

I love the feeling of fog. I feel as though I am tucked beneath a thick down-filled duvet on a chilly morning.

Fleet

The mist and fog settled in. It was as though nothing else existed, only our fleet of sails and the ocean below. Quiet was ours as time stood still.
