Basket
In no hurry, this gentleman peddles slowly down the street. What you may not notice is he is taking a drag on his smoke and just movin' along, taking in the sights and sounds of the neighborhood.
Shot in the Exchange District in Winnipeg, Manitoba back in the fall of 2011. When I happened upon this guy I didn't have time to change my settings so I shot with what I had. My shutter speed was 1/6400 and aperture was f/5.6. What is most ridiculous to me is my ISO setting. For those who have been following my posts, you'll be a little surprised to read it was set at 800. I do not know what that was about and since this was more than a year ago, try as I might, I cannot remember for the life of me!
Still, I liked the shot and decided to work with what I had. Currently on a quest to incorporate interesting colour and textures into my photography, I imported this image into photoshop and played around until I found something that worked well with both the original composition and the one in my head.

Three of a Kind
Taking pictures with a theme in mind can make for an easy grouping of artwork. Here I shot a bunch of pictures in a retro diner with thoughts of a series. Once on my computer I enhanced each image with identical treatments so they would blend even better together.
The simplicity found in the colours of the diner were easy to work with and easier to bring together.

Resting
There are a few buses parked in a fenced in field in our neighborhood. The buses are aged. The years have taken their toll and yet they don't seem done to me. They continue to give in the way of memories. You don't have to gaze at these for long for a memory or two to come to mind. Even at rest, we can well imagine their glory days as we are transported back in time.
I took this shot through a chain linked fence. The plastic that was threaded through the fencing didn't allow for my lens to poke through. As a result the edges are softened. No matter, I brought the image into photoshop and played with some textures, further aging the image and creating even more of a retro feel. Not all images are lost to limitations!

Retro Ride
Come with me to a gentler time.
Bicycles and baskets, soda pops and swing bands.
As you may have noticed I am going through my images and also taking photos that bring me to another time, another place. Seeing places or things can immediately retrieve experiences from our archives and parade them through our mind's eye. They can also conjure up delightful imaginative stories of what it might have been to experience another time.

Memories
A picture can be worth a thousand words and maybe a memory or two as well.
A pencil sharpener is not very beautiful nor is it ugly. So what is it about this that made you look or keeps you here? It is exactly the type of object that many of us have used. We can remember standing in front of this sharpening our pencils for a spelling test in grade school or to finish a sketch in art class. We can hear the sharpener grind the orange painted wood away. We can smell the shavings and lead. We can see ourselves emptying the canister into the metal waste can. It is just one simple object that quickly places us back in specific places and times.
If you were to choose one object that would reach into many people's memory banks, what would it be?

Diner
A throw back in time. Can you hear the tunes and feel your bare legs stick to the vinyl chair? Maybe you've ordered a double dog and are reaching for the ketchup.
