One of the best tips for autumn photography that I've ever received is from a friend who takes pictures as a hobby. He takes amazing pictures; his eye for composition is exceptional.

This friend said that for the oranges and reds to really pop you need to have some green in the picture. We need to see, by contrast, just how orange or red or yellow the leaves really are. I think we also like to see the difference between what was and now is. Some leaves that have not yet surrendered to autumn help to tell this piece of the story.

So when you are out and about taking pictures of autumn, find patches of green and include them in your shots. You won't be sorry.

Pathway to Summer

On this cold winter day, I look at this picture and it invites me to summer. The pathway present by way of lines and form welcomes me with open arms and moves me forward into these sunny skies and warmer temperatures.

This is one of the many things I love about photography. It invites me to another place for a time, a place in my memory or on my bucket list for that matter.

Quiet Welcome

Today is a spectacular autumn day. Summertime temperatures meet the beginning of rusty reds and golden yellows.

I walked the trail a couple of times today and during my second time around I took my camera with me. I ventured into the wooded section of the pathway; it welcomed me with quiet. As I entered, the rush of the traffic was replaced with the rustle of the leaves. I stood still and looked and listened. Gone were the worries of the day. Soaking the sights and sounds of the stillness in, I began to move through the woods and out. Interestingly, the noise outside the woods did not seem so loud anymore.
