Sometimes I just happen upon a picture

When I went out to get the paper this morning, I reached for the latch and then looked down. Just an inch or two away from my hand was a very large dragonfly, sitting there with no intention of moving. I jumped a little and then ran back into the house to get my camera and switch to my macro lens. I was happy to see him still perched on the latch when I returned. He washed his face while I snapped pics and really didn't seem to care that I was there.

Delicacy Back in the Day

When I was a kid I might have thought this was a treat. I was not beyond munching on an insect, even if it might be a pet insect, alive and kicking. Today, I will not eat these kinds of things. They are not chicken.

Looking at this picture reminds me that summer is on its way. The insects will return and for now, this has its own appeal, along with the sandy beaches and sunny skies. Mosquitoes, however, hold no appeal whatsoever, to my appetite or otherwise.
