Cabin on the Rocks

It is tough to get proper exposure in a composition that includes a good deal of sky that you don't want blown out and a foreground that demands adequate brightness and clarity.To do this in camera is challenging, if not impossible.

Once on my computer I bumped up the exposure in the grassy area, including the cabin and woodsheds, while bringing a curtain down over the sky area to recover what was lost at capture.

Because the cabin and woodsheds were all relatively the same distance from my lens, I didn't need an exceptionally great depth of field. I opted for an aperture of f/9 which brought satisfactory clarity to the buildings.

Spider Webs and Dew Drops on a Saturday Morning

I need to start wearing knee pads for these kinds of shoots. Crawling around on stones to get the shots is painful. Funny how I often don't notice the pain or disregard it until I move to get up after the images are captured.

The rain and heavy fog have left behind millions of tiny drops on the grass blades and spider webs. If you look closely you'll not only see a large dew drop (that is actually pretty small) but on each web string is a line of drops. It is quite spectacular when magnified.

I used my 60 mm macro lens to get right close to the dew drops. I bumped up my ISO to 200 and used an f-stop of 2.8 to get decent exposure at a 1/60 shutter speed.

Winter Caught in Summer

The snow looks like cotton tufts, caught in between and around the green blades, like winter getting caught in summer.

The mix of two seasons is always so interesting to me. Capturing their intertwining is a great deal of fun.

Grass

Lighting makes all the difference. If the sun was not shining through the golden leaf in the background, this single blade of grass would not be so captivating. Because of the incredible back-light, the grass is really quite exquisite.

There is beauty in the ordinary all around. Look. Closely.

Stay Awhile

Have a seat. Stay awhile.

These blades have done just that. They've found their roots here, beneath the shelter of the bench. Now grown up and through, they show themselves as part of this place.
