Baby, It's Cold Outside!

We spent a bit of time outside this morning, wandering the pathways and trudging through knee-deep snow in a winter wonderland.  It was beautiful but very cold. A graffiti covered railway bridge was my reward. Long since abandoned for train travel, it became my subject for the morning.

Nestled

What I love about this tulip is how one of the petals lies nestled in a leaf, protected and safe, snuggled and embraced.

Mixed Media Collage and Enter to Win!!!

I like to try new things with my photography. Often I'll do the new thing just for a time and go back to the simple photo with most of the work done in camera (which has always been my first love in the world of photography). Here is a mixed media collage I made. If you'd like your own sweet copy, click here.

Top Trends for Spring - Commentary by Moi

According to an article written by Miranda Furtado (any relation to the one that sings??) in The Winnipeg Free Press, these are the hot fashion trends for the spring of 2011:
Bold Colours
- So bright you may need your sunglasses, in fact. I have a handy pair of "box-overs" that might go well with the brights. I am always sure to make my family proud when I wear these.
Asian Themed
- I used to have a mandarin collared shirt but I don't think I do anymore.
Sheer Madness
- Sheer fabrics, maybe even for that floor length frock. Yeah, this isn't going to happen for this gal.
Longer Hemlines
- Below the knee they say. If you are short, buy heels they say. Mini-skirts are out - Maxi-dresses are in.       Skirts? Dresses? I'll stick with pants, thanks.
Neutrals
- These never left my closet.
Lace
- I'm itchy.
70's - Get your Groove On!
- See picture below. I'm good.
Prints
- Think jungle. Don't we, all of the ladies I mean, gravitate towards the animal print as we age?
Sequins
-Bedazzle me bling!
Halter Necklines
- Good for the beach I say.

Strong Lines and Order

I went for a short walk this morning to jumpstart my day. I guess the unstructured ways of these last days must have a saturation point. It was all about strong lines and order in my composition of these shots. I did not take the pictures with that intent but I find my photography informs me rather than the other way around...or is it more circular than that?

Back at it (and don't forget to enter to win)!

Today will be the first regular kind of day around here since the holidays began. I did get in several hours of work yesterday but it was rather indulgent as I stayed in my jammies for about three of those hours.

I am looking forward to the new year with new projects, new photo ideas and new marketing strategies ready to be unpacked and implemented. If I gather the courage and the time, I will also begin to approach some galleries with my work. At 44 years of age, I need not wait until I'm all grown up anymore!

Do not forget to enter the Give-away! See a previous post called "A Give-away" for more information on how to enter. January 1 is the day of the draw.

Boxing Day

Christmas Day has come and gone. It was wonderful to be with family and friends over the past days. We're not quite finished celebrating - looking forward to the remaining festivities!

Today is Boxing Day. I will not be venturing out into the stores; I enjoy life too much. If there are folks out there who venture into my Etsy shop, I will be happy to welcome them. There are no crowds to battle around my laptop. It all seems so much calmer this way.

I was pleasantly surprised to see one of my images hit the front page of Etsy on Christmas Day. It generated quite a bit of traffic to my shop. This exposure is always welcome. The image that made it is my Carriage in Waiting photo that seems to be quite popular. If I had the formula for what makes it popular, I would bottle it and sell it on Etsy! :) Here is the photo:

And here is the treasury that made it to Etsy's front page (if someone can help me with the code to center html please comment):

Christmas Eve's Snow

Etsy Treasury created by PeifferStudios

Faulty Lighting

It is Christmas Eve morning. Our tree's lights are on and for the most part the city still sleeps. The lighting on this pre-lit tree challenges me. There are lengths of lights that will not remain lit (and no, they are not set to be flashing). I have taken to stringing the tree with extra lights, only to have those ones fail as well.   With any project, there comes a time when you've done all you can and what is, is. The tree is what it is. Christmas Eve is still here and we will still celebrate the birth of Christ.
Merry Christmas.

Hot Colour Trend for 2011

I will kick off my new blog by telling you about the new colour trend for 2011, Honeysuckle Rose. Not being a big pink fan, I am pleased this is a bit more subdued than fuchsia. Partnered with the right complimentary colour, this can work beautifully in fashion for the ladies or even home decor. See the top 10 Pantone Colours for women's fashion chosen by NY designers here:  Top 10. For those interested in men's fashion colours click here: view men's colors spring 2011.

Now in the know, one of my first clutch purses that I will craft will incorporate this shade of pink. Here is the sample fabric with the liner fabric tucked underneath.

So now you know I am starting up my blogging again. This will be a place where I can share my latest creations, whether photography or some other creative idea that has caught my fancy. I may share treasuries (collections of cool items on Etsy) that I have put together or that others have curated, my latest images, new projects, neat things I've seen on the 'net, etc. I have full creative freedom with this blog and that makes me a happy girl.

Bookmark if you choose. Follow if you will. Comment at your leisure.

Be well,
Carla
